"Rewind us again"

If you could be a fly on the wall in the Huron home (we are thankful you can’t be) you would find we never lack for creativity, new ideas, and diverse talents. Some of our creations never make it to the public eye. Of the new ideas that don’t succeed, they become little more than vague bad dreams. Of talents…..we find that new ones appear almost daily. The “talent” of “flying” from one end of the couch to the other isn’t nurtured…

and we don’t encourage the 5 year olds “talent” of hair cutting. (he didn’t like: “the swirly thing right there on the top of my head!”)

Ah! but not all Huron talent is bad….

My brother Ben has always loved drawing. We are always finding little pencil drawn figures or small sketches of nature around the house. Sometimes he will completely surprise us with his natural talent of drawing. One day he showed us this….

(if you look closely, you can take in all the detail.)

In order for you to understand the meaning of this picture, I must tell a story.

-Rewind us again-

Cilicia and Alexis (the twins) have always loved to sing. One evening, sixteen or seventeen years ago, Mom had already put them to bed. It had been a long, stressful day and Mom had experienced enough “twin-ishness”. Like most three or four year olds, they found it hard to stay still. They decided to sing some of their favorite songs. The hymn, “Revive Us Again” was one they knew well….Mom from in the kitchen, heard little voices coming from down the hall. She stopped right outside their bedroom door and listened to them sing. “….Re-WI-I-IND us again, fill each heart with Thy love, may each soul be rekindled with fire from above…hallelujah Thine the glory, hallelujah amen, hallelujah Thine the glory, REWIND us again….” “Oh Lord, Mom prayed as she listened from the door-way, please don’t rewind them again….I need a break!

Ben, after hearing this story, went to work and created a sketch of what it might have been like that night.

So, there you have it. Talent. And more talent. I will never cease to be amazed by the every-day wonders that happen in the Huron household.
